ECAP12 takes place across three buildings within the same area of the Complutense University of Madrid’s Ciudad Universitaria campus — a historic university district in the northwest of the city, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1999. The three venues are within easy walking distance of each other, all fully air-conditioned, and well connected to the city centre by public transport.

Edificio Multiusos — Main Venue and Lunches
The main conference hub is the Edificio Multiusos, a modern, purpose-built facility with a distinctive glass facade and a striking top-lit atrium. It houses the registration desk, coffee breaks, lunches, and the majority of parallel sessions, including keynote talks and symposia.

Facultad de Filología, Edificio D — Additional Sessions
Directly opposite the Edificio Multiusos, the Edificio D of the Faculty of Philology houses additional rooms for keynote talks and symposia. Its main Salón de Actos is a well-equipped auditorium regularly used for large academic events. Moving between the Multiusos and Edificio D takes under two minutes on foot.

Facultad de Derecho — Plenary Sessions and Welcome Reception
The Faculty of Law (Facultad de Derecho), one of the most emblematic buildings of the Ciudad Universitaria, will host the plenary sessions and part of the social programme. Designed by architect Agustín Aguirre López and inaugurated in 1956, the building forms part of the so-called conjunto de las letras — the historic humanities precinct of the campus — together with the Faculties of Philosophy and Geography and History.
The Aula Magna Joaquín Garrigues, the faculty’s grand lecture hall, will be the setting for all plenary sessions. The terrace of the faculty cafeteria will host the Welcome Reception on the first day of the congress.

From the Edificio Multiusos, head up the outdoor staircase directly in front of the main entrance. The Faculty of Law is the first building you will see on your left as you reach the top.
Getting to the Campus
All three venues are located within Ciudad Universitaria, on Calle del Profesor Aranguren and Avenida Complutense (28040 Madrid). Access is the same for all of them.
The two most common ways to reach Ciudad Universitaria are Metro Line 6 and EMT city buses. Due to ongoing works on Metro Line 6, some sections operate differently during the congress — please read the information below carefully.
The nearest metro station is Ciudad Universitaria (Line 6), a 12–15 minute walk from the Edificio Multiusos.
If you are travelling from stations on the northern arc of Line 6 (Cuatro Caminos, Guzmán el Bueno, Vicente Aleixandre), the line still reaches Ciudad Universitaria.
If you board Line 6 further away (for example at Nuevos Ministerios), you will need to get off at Cuatro Caminos and change platforms — follow the signs marked “Cambio de andén / Change platforms” inside the station. No need to exit or re-validate your ticket.
Please note: the train between Cuatro Caminos and Ciudad Universitaria runs on a single track, so trains may be less frequent than usual (waits of up to 15 minutes might be possible). Please allow some extra time.
A note on Google Maps: some routing apps may suggest getting off at Vicente Aleixandre and walking to the venue. This is not necessary — the train continues one more stop to Ciudad Universitaria, which is the closest station to all conference buildings. Please stay on the train until the end of the line.
If you are travelling from stations south of Argüelles (Príncipe Pío, Legazpi, Sainz de Baranda, etc.), Line 6 terminates at Argüelles. From there, take the free SE6 shuttle bus to Ciudad Universitaria (see below).
A free shuttle bus, the SE6, replaces the closed metro section between Argüelles ↔ Moncloa ↔ Ciudad Universitaria. It runs in both directions every 6–7 minutes, from 06:05 until late evening (until 02:12 on Fridays and Saturdays). No ticket required.
At Ciudad Universitaria, the SE6 stops right next to the Ciudad Universitaria metro station.
The EMT bus network is not affected by the metro works and is a reliable alternative. Traffic in Madrid is usually light during August, so buses tend to run smoothly and on time.
Line 133 is particularly convenient if you are staying in the city centre, as it stops at Callao, Gran Vía, Plaza de España, and Argüelles before reaching Ciudad Universitaria. Get off at the stop Estadística-Geografía e Historia.

Getting Around Madrid
Madrid has an extensive, efficient, and fully air-conditioned public transport network covering metro, buses, and commuter trains. To use it, you need a Public Transport Card, available from ticket machines at any metro station, which you then load with your chosen ticket type (single journey or 10-journey card).
Visitors may find the Tourist Travel Pass convenient — it covers metro, city buses, commuter trains, and light rail for 1 to 7 consecutive days and can be loaded onto the same card. More information.
